Reflexology

Firm Thumb Pressure, Both Feet, Clothes On

Reflexology – An Hour Spent on Your Feet

Your feet carry you around all day and get almost no attention in return. Reflexology gives them an entire session: thumbs working slowly across the sole, the arch, the heel, between the toes.

It is the one treatment where you never have to get undressed.

It works through the feet, and it is more structured than a general foot rub. Each session follows a route around the foot, so different areas of the foot are worked in a set order. Your therapist moves through them methodically rather than wandering about.

It is quiet, unhurried work. Plenty of people fall asleep about ten minutes in.

What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is firm thumb and finger pressure applied to the feet, and sometimes the hands or ears, following a traditional map of zones across the sole.

In practice that means your therapist spends the whole session on one foot at a time, then the other. The pressure is firmer than most people expect, and the odd spot can feel tender when it is first pressed. That usually settles as your therapist stays with the area.

It is an old practice with a long history in a number of cultures. We offer it as a wellness treatment: sessions are intended for relaxation and comfort only, and are not a treatment for any medical condition.

What a Reflexology Session Involves

You keep your clothes on and lie back with your feet raised. The session is spent applying steady thumb pressure to the sole, the arch and the heel, one foot and then the other. Your feet are washed first, and a light oil or balm is used so the thumbs can move without dragging.

How the Pressure Feels

Firm, and firmer than a foot rub. Your therapist works with the side of the thumb, holding on each spot for a few seconds before moving on. If it is too much anywhere, say so and the pressure comes down straight away. Ticklish feet are not a problem: the contact is steady rather than light.

Who Is Reflexology For?

You stay dressed and nothing but your feet is touched, which suits a lot of people. It tends to be booked by:

  • People who would rather not undress for a massage

  • Anyone who has been on their feet all day, every day

  • People who want a shorter appointment than a full-body massage

  • Travellers who have walked half of Athens in the wrong shoes

  • Anyone who spends too much time on their feet—or too little movement at all

  • Anyone who simply likes having their feet worked on

If you have a diagnosed medical condition, or you are recovering from surgery or illness, please talk to your doctor before booking a session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mostly—but not always. While foot reflexology is the most common, some therapists also work on the hands or ears, which have their own pressure maps. That said, most of our sessions are foot work from start to finish.

Quite possibly. A lot of people do. Others stay wide awake because the pressure is firm enough that the sensation holds their attention. Either reaction is normal, and neither is anything to worry about.

Most sessions are 30 to 60 minutes, depending on whether reflexology is the whole appointment or an add-on to a longer massage. A 30-minute session covers both feet without rushing; an hour means more time on each one.
